2009 - Arnaud Chopin

Pinot Noir
Aux Murgers
France | Burgundy | Cote de Nuits | Nuits-St-Georges
5 bottles available

Arnaud, along with brother Alban and their father manage this family property. The style here is one of elegance and finesse. A powerful wine with sophisticated tannins. Nose of red and blue berry fruit with very subtle underlying herbal flavors, beautiful structure. A silky wine with lots of red and black fruit (both red raspberries and red and black cherries and plums), with good concentration and nice texture. On the palate this is velvety with a touch of oak. Vines are between 65 and 75 years old.

2011 - Braida

Montebruna -- Barbera d'Asti
Italy | Piedmont | Barbera d'Asti
Sold Out

The son of a winemaker, Giacomo Bologna established the small Braida winery in Rocchetta Tanaro, in the province of Asti, Piedmont, in 1961. Although better known for his Cru's in the US (Bricco dell Uccelone), in Italy they drink this more traditional Barbera which is not done in small oak barrels, but rather large oak Foudres. These days, Raffaella and Giuseppe, run the wine estate. With their state-of-the-art cellars and forward-thinking work ethic, they have made Braida one of the most-respected wineries in Piedmont. Their wines -- most of them made from indigenous varieties -- are well known among wine lovers as being refreshing, easy-to-drink ambassadors of the region. Montebruna is soft and lush in the mouth. Medium-full bodied, balanced, with black and red fruits. Pair with risotto and rich pastas; maybe a gnocchi with butter and herbs.

2011 - Broadside

Cabernet Sauvignon
Margarita Vineyard -- Paso Robles
USA | California | San Luis Obispo County | Paso Robles
Sold Out

"Fine California cabernet sauvignon is not restricted to Napa Valley. I've had wonderful cabernets from Sonoma and the Santa Cruz Mountains, and this one from one of the cooler areas in Paso Robles. I've enjoyed Broadside's classically structured cabernet for several vintages now, and the '11 is especially good: dry, rich and slightly tannic, with snappy red fruit and an herbal tinge." Eric Asimov, NY Times

2006 - Chartogne-Taillet

Pinot Noir & Chardonnay
Cuvee Fiacre -- Champagne
France | Champagne
Sold Out

Always a favorite Champagne, Chartogne-Taille's Couer de Champagne Cuvee Fiacre is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir from very old vines in Merfy. Since the mid 1600's, the Chartogne family has planted vines and made their own wines, and are the only recoltant-manipulant in Merfy with old vines other area growers replant to ensure hearty productivity. Not so at Chartogne-Taillet: low yields and superior terroir give these wines backbone and depth.

2011 - Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups

Chenin Blanc
Sec Clos de Venise -- Vouvray
France | Loire Valley | Touraine | Vouvray
18 bottles available

A star in the heart of the Loire Valley, Jacky Blot of Domaine de la Taille aux Loups. A wine broker previously, Jacky acquired about 8 hectares of 50-75 year old vines in 1989. These prized parcels belonged to families that could no longer continue to cultivate the vines and so he entrusted them to Blot and his team. Yields are kept low, and he ploughs now instead of treating chemically, allowing the roots to descend deep into the limestone bedrock. Harvest is done by hand, and as late as possible. Fresh apples, pears, super minerally. Beautiful acidity that does need some time to come around. An illustration of what great Chenin can be.

2011 - Domaine de la Taille la Butte

Cabernet Franc
Mi-Pente -- Bourgueil
France | Loire Valley | Touraine | Bourgueil
23 bottles available

2008 - Domaine FL

Chenin Blanc
Chamboureau -- Savennieres
France | Loire Valley | Anjou | Savennieres
Sold Out

These Chenin grapes are grown on schist soil. Low yields are one factor that contributes to the concentration of this wine. Aged for 12 months in oak with no malo-lactic fermentation. Pale lemon color. Ripe citrus fruit on the nose with dried fruit and mineral notes on the palate.

Philippe Fournier named this domaine in honor of his parents (F from Fournier and L from Longchamp). After settling in Angers, Philippe became enamored with Savennieres - he was determined to invest in vineyards here, or buy outright if necessary, causing some grief in the process. The result was 40 hectares of vines, spread out over several vineyards including Chateau de Chamboureau.

Stephane Derenoncourt is part of the team, bringing expertise and passion to the mix.
